Is FriendFeed Breaking Up With Us?
Posted in Tools on 30. Oct, 2009
I know it’s over.
I mean not “over-over” but, you know they don’t post like they used to. They have no desire to keep the relationship fresh and new. Oh they tell you they’ll call, write, take you to new places. That they’ll upgrade and change. But they don’t. Ever since that slick-talking, young rich kid Facebook came around and whispered sweet nothings of venture capital in their ear, things haven’t been the same between us. I’m not the only one crying over FriendFeed, either.
Please know I am not THAT broken up over the apparent sunset of a lifestreaming tool *sniff*. I do have mixed emotions, in that I know the relationships I forged on their will never be quite the same. Folks like Derrick, RPM, and others will end up scattered between various feeds, like a digital lost tribe of Israel.
I had hopes FB would operate FF like a wholly-owned subsidiary, but deep inside I knew better. They’d applied the old “if you can’t beat em, join em” axiom, and sensing their growing popularity, bought their brainpower.
So where’s that leave FriendFeed and me? I’ll probably pull the old “break up with them before they break up with me” stunt. Next post I’ll examine my new prospects.
Yet I stay subscribed to their blog, hoping in vain they’ll come back to me.
